Gang Abducting Women For Sexual Abuse Arrested In Port Harcourt

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has arrested a five-man kidnap syndicate which specialised in the abduction of women (young or aged) and sexually abuse them before negotiating ransom for their release.

This suspected kidnap group comprising young men between the ages of 22 – 30 years perpetrate their act in the South-South region of the country, especially in Port Harcourt.

The suspects “target lone female drivers of Porsche cars as they drive out of offices, shopping malls or any vulnerable place.

“They thereafter, trail them to lonely roads, abduct and take them to their criminal hideouts, sexually abuse them and demand ransom from their families before their release.

“They also sell off their exotic cars,” an investigation by the Force revealed.

However, a statement signed by its spokesperson, Frank Mba, said the suspects were arrested by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team following a massive manhunt.

Recovered items include: “Four AK47 rifles, one double-barrel shotgun and set of military camouflage uniforms suspected to have been illegally acquired, which they wear to beat security checks”.

The police said efforts were been made to capture other fleeing members of the gang and to recover more exhibits.

The Inspector-General of Police has, however, assured that the action plan being implemented by the Force to curb Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, particularly all forms of abuse on women and children in the country, is yielding positive results.
