Glo CAF Awards: RMD, Mimi Fawaz To Host Event

Nollywood legend, Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) and Sports journalist, premium show host and presenter of Sports 360 on Vox Africa, Mimi Fawaz, have been announced as the official comperes of the 2016 Glo-Caf Awards.

 Richard Mofe-Damijo popularly known as RMD was born July 6, 1961. He is a Nigerian actor, lawyer, politician and journalist. He was the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State, Nigeria between 2009 and 2015.

He is a multiple award winning actor, and has featured in several top-notch soaps and films. He is currently the face of Globacom’s powerful television commercials which celebrated the company’s ground-breaking launch of Nigeria’s first nationwide mobile 4G LTE network.

Mimi, a graduate of City University of London has worked for CNN, ESPN and ITV Television networks.

Half-Nigerian and half-Lebanese, Mimi has been described as the ‘driving force behind UK’s first original African football show’, she has successfully carved a niche for herself in a field dominated by men.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had announced that the award ceremony will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.

Abuja will be hosting the awards for the third time and second consecutive year after hosting the inaugural edition in 2005.

Globacom stated that the awards gala would also assemble African football legends, including the new African Footballer of the Year and winners in 12 other categories.

The categories include African Player of The Year (Based in Africa), National Team of The Year, Club of The Year, and Coach of The Year.

Other categories are Women’s National Team of The Year, Women’s Footballer of The Year, Most Promising Talent, Referee of The Year, Legend of The year, Fair Play Award, Platinum Award – Single nominee, and Africa Finest XI. 

Gabon and Borrussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the reigning Africa Player off the Year, Tanzania’s Mbwana Samatta is Africa’s Player of the Year (based in Africa).
