Gombe Lawmaker Flees With Assembly Mace

Abdullahi Abubakar Maiwanka, a member of the Gombe State House of Assembly, has fled the assembly premises with the house mace.

Maiwanka, a member of APC representing Akko West constituency, snatched the mace while the house was on plenary.

The incident was in protest to moves by some members of the All Progressives Congress in the House to impeach the Minority Leader, Mohammed Haruna, who is a member of the party.

Maiwanka took the mace and sped away from the premises in his car despite attempt by security agents to stop him.

The house continued session with a spare mace.

Recall that a similar incident recently occurred at the Nigerian Senate, when thugs, allegedly loyal to Senator Ovie Omo-Agege stormed the upper chamber and seized the symbol of authority.
