Gunmen Abduct Bayelsa Commissioner Hours After Senate’s Intervention On Kidnapping

Forty eight hours after the Nigerian Senate called on the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to improve security in the country, gunmen have abducted the father of the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Agriculture, Doodei Week.

Week was abducted in the early hours of Thursday from his home at Ayama-Ijaw in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.

Recall that senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye had raised a Point of Order on the floor of the Senate to report activities of kidnapping along Abuja-Lokoja expressway and in Nigeria at large.

He called on the Senate to enforce citizen diplomacy which will ensure that lives of every Nigerian will matter.

Similarly, the Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe (PDP, Abia South) urged the IGP and other security agencies to “be up in their responsibilities.”

The senate President said the security agencies needed more funds to adequately fight the security challenges in the country.

He urged the security agencies to secure the Abuja-Lokoja road and other roads in Nigeria, ordering the IGP to intensify efforts in protecting lives and properties of Nigerians.
