How Jabi Park Fire Destroyed Our Means Of Livelihood – Traders

Parts of the Jabi motor Park, Abuja was affected by a fire incident on Friday, leading to the destruction of goods worth millions of naira.

The sad incident also affected not less than nine shops, while three persons were reported injured.

One of the victims, a car dealer who gave her name as Chukwura was still in shock when THE WHISTLER visited the scene of the fire.

She expressed shocked at the damage to her husband’s shop, adding that over 2000 batteries of various range and synthetic oil were burnt.

She said it was God who spared her life as she and her kid were inside the shop with a customer when they noticed smoke coming out from the door of their warehouse.

According to her, they had to run out of the shop as they watched the fire consume their means of livelihood.

“I don’t know where the fire came from as there has been no light since last night but all of us were inside the shop, and as they brought back the light, we noticed smoke in the shop.

“Though the fire service came but before they arrived the damage had been done; people also came around to pour water.”

Furthermore, the manager of the shop, Chigozie Obiora said that the fire was raging uncontrollably and that he had to call on people for help.

“I had to climb up and break the ceiling, but I noticed that the fire was much; but fire service came and quenched it, but the things destroyed here are much.

“At least, what we lost here is about fifty million worth of synthetic oil and batteries about 49 million naira.

Okechukwu Oganaku who resides opposite the shop gutted by fire, said that people took advantage of the confusion to steal some of his property.

“This is where I am lodging but when the fire came it was quite unfortunate, but we only thank God that it did not affect life.

“It destroyed many things and our properties were thrown outside but some people exploited us and stole our television sets, boxes. By the time the police came in to bring order, the thieves had made away with our belongings,” he said.
