I Can Attest That Jonathan, Not Buhari, Built Abuja Light Rail – Dino Melaye

The lawmaker representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Senator Dino Melaye, has taken a swipe at President Muhammadu Buhari for describing the recently commissioned Abuja Light Rail project as a fulfillment of his administration’s promise.

Recall that President Buhari had during the commissioning of the light rail said “Today, what we have in the FCT is another evidence that we are a government that delivers on its promises. I have observed keenly other milestones that this administration has achieved, especially in the areas of education, public utilities and infrastructure development.”

Buhari’s remark during the project commissioning had sparked outrage with the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and some of its chieftains accusing the president of attempting to take credit for achievement of his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan.

Latest of such criticism is from a former member of the president’s All Progressives Congress (APC) party, Senator Melaye, who thanked former President Jonathan for starting the project and taking it to over 85% completion.

Melaye, who had recently defected from the ruling APC to the PDP, said he could attest that the Abuja Light Rail project was a Jonathan’s administration project and not of the Buhari’s government as the president was trying to make the people believe.

The federal lawmaker wrote on his Instagram page on Saturday: “President Jonathan thank you for the Abuja light rail transport. As Chairman Senate Committee on FCT I can attest to the fact that 85% of the job was completed before you left office. God bless Nigeria.”
