During an interview with BBC Hausa monitored on Monday, Abubakar stated that the bandits had moved the children like a herd of cows after they abducted them from the school.

He stated that they had trekked in the bush; sometimes crawled, adding that they were so thirsty that some of the girls were becoming weak and falling down due to tiredness but were put on motorcycles by the bandits.

Abubakar further stated that at a time, the bandits had ordered them to remove one of their clothes and lie down on the floor when a plane was hovering above them.

He added that they got to a big river where the children drank some water before the trekking continued.

Abubakar noted that there was no food, adding that the bandits ate leaves and wild fruits.

“I hid inside and crawled like a snake. I was there until it was completely silent before I came out and headed to the bush,” he said.

Abubakar stated that he later met an old man who had difficulty walking and asked him the pathway to the main road or any nearby place so that he could get water to drink.

Abubakar stated that he walked amid exhaustion for a long time adding that at nightfall, he arrived at Gayan, a community close to his, after which he was able to get home.
