I Cried When My Daughter Took Davido’s Surname-Sophia

Davido’s first baby mama Sophia Momodu, has revealed how her family laughed at her for crying that her daughter’s last name was not going to be ‘Momodu’

Momodu said this through her Instagram Story on Tuesday. This revelation was made after Sophia shared a post where a woman disagreed with the notion of single or unmarried women giving kids their fathers last name.

Momodu had her daughter in 2015 and named her Imade Adeleke. She added that she was really distraught by the decision.

The 33-year-old entrepreneur, who felt she was in the same situation asked her fans for their opinion regarding the last name issue.

Shedding more light on the last name issue, she recounted how her mother and aunties slammed the idea of using her name (Sophia) after Imade’s birth.

Momodu wrote, “I remember my mom and aunties laughing at me when I was crying because my daughter’s last name wasn’t going to be Momodu.

“I was genuinely distraught. I was even arguing and everything, that they put her father’s full names and not a single letter from mine.

“Pulled out my feminist card and everything, Z! E pain me gan that year sha”.(sic)

She further revealed that her mother made her understand that Imade should bear her father’s name so that she can gain from her father’s lineage and inheritance.
