Ibadan Crisis: Traders Recount Losses As Makinde Visits Scene

Traders at the Iwo Road Shopping Complex, Ibadan where hoodlums allegedly killed two persons on Thursday narrated how armed hoodlums unleashed terror on them, killed one and looted their shops.

They said the hoodlums returned on Thursday morning and looted more shops after the looting which started on Wednesday evening.

One of the traders, who identified himself as Akeem told our correspondent that the armed drivers who they said killed Rahmon, son of the owner of the shopping complex, was led by prominent leaders among the Park Managers.

He said, ” They stole everything in my shop just like they did to other shops.

” We want justice. The young man who they killed must not be allowed to die in vain. The governor must ensure that justice is done.”

They said this just as Governor Seyi Makinde visited the scene of the clash.

Makinde arrived at the scene amidst heavy presence of armed policemen, soldiers, NDCDC officials and Amotekun.

The governor inspected the shopping complex and went to the back of a street to see the canal.

While addressing the angry traders, he said the same would be investigated but appeal to the traders to allow the police to investigate the case.

He asked the traders to select two persons who would represent them and tell the government their grievances

The Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, who visited the scene also told the traders that the police had begun investigation into the crisis.

She told them that justice would be done.

Recall that the crisis was said to have been triggered following an altercation between Rahmon, the son of the owner of the shopping complex and drivers, who are members of the Park Management System ( formerly NURTW).

The drivers were said to have parked their vehicles in front of the shopping complex which prevented visitors and shop owners from parking there. The altercation degenerated and Rahmon was killed.
