JAMB Lists 38 UTME Centers Indicted For ‘Cyber Fraud’

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has named 38 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) accredited centers allegedly indicted for registration cyber fraud.

The indicted centers in different states were listed in the board’s weekly bulletin of 27 January – 2 February.

The bulletin stated: “The following Centres have been indicted for Registration Cyber Fraud.

“The thirty-eight (38) Centres in this category have been invited to Abuja for a meeting with the Board’s Management on Wednesday, 29th January by 10am. 

Furthermore, JAMB also suspended three Centres in Adamawa, Delta and Enugu for “extortion of candidates directly or by proxy”.

Based on the bulletin, parents were warned to be wary of making exorbitant payments for UTME.

“It has come to the knowledge of the Board that some elite schools are using the name of the Board to extort huge sums of money from parents under the guise that the Board has ordered such payments.

“Parents are to note that the cost of the UTME forms remains N3500 for the ePINs and N500 for the reading text and nothing more.

“In addition, the CBT centres where the candidates register have been directed not to charge anything above N700 as their service charge.”
