JUST-IN: Benue Confirms First Case Of Coronavirus

The Benue State COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Action Committee has announced that the state has recorded one case of the disease.

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state announced this after a meeting with the action committee put in place to curtail the spread of the virus in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.

Governor Ortom said a positive case had been detected from one of the 8 suspected cases of people who came back from the united kingdom.

The governor gave the name of the victim as Susan Okpe, and advised those who came in contact with her in the last 14days to submit themselves for test and isolation.

He said some proactive steps had also been taken to stop the spread of the virus, stressing that the people should ensure to take into cognizance all the precautionary measures.

Also, all markets in Benue state would be closed from Monday.However, shops and pharmacies would be allowed to operate.

All SDG ambulances have been withdrawn back to designated centres to help in curtailing the effect of Covid-19.

The state have also restricted “the issue of weddings in church and mosque, if necessary, it should end on the alter,no reception.

“Burials are restricted to family members only and not more than 30 people. “

The governor also said “Church in Benue has been restricted and those who are planning for Communion and other church activities are advised to put it on hold .”

“Benue people living in other states have been advised to remain where they are for now.”
