Kaduna: After Sacking ‘Incompetent Teachers,’ El-Rufai Enrolls Son In Public Primary School

Over a year after the sack of 22,000 teachers in the state, Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, on Monday, enrolled one of his sons, Abubakar Al-Siddique, in a public school.

The governor had sacked 22,000 teachers promising to replace them with 25, 000 qualified ones, adding that the sacked “teachers had no business in the classroom.”

El-Rufai, in a series of tweets on his official twitter page said he enrolled his son at Kaduna Capital School in order to lead by example.

He said the move was part of ways he could show his commitment to fixing the educational sector in the state.

Recall that in 2017, the governor had said, “I will by personal example ensure that my son that will be six years of age in 2019 will be enrolled in a public school in Kaduna State, by God’s grace.”

The governor who tweeted pictures of his son dressed in the public school uniform said, “Reforming the Education sector in Kaduna is a continuing struggle against decades of neglect. But the govt has a strong commitment to fix public education and raise the standard of public schools so that private education will become only a luxury.
