Kano, Jigawa, Katsina To Experience Four-Hour Blackout, Says NISO

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has announced a planned four-hour power outage that will affect Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states on Sunday.

The planned blackout, according to NISO, would allow the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to carry out critical maintenance at the 330kV Kumbotso Substation.

In a statement issued on Friday, NISO announced that the scheduled outage would take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., during which time electricity supply would be temporarily interrupted across the three states.

The system operator explained that the maintenance is aimed at upgrading the transmission infrastructure to strengthen the national grid, improve transmission capacity and enhance the reliability of electricity supply in the affected region.

According to NISO, the investment is expected to boost the resilience of Nigeria’s power system and support more stable electricity delivery to customers.

The operator expressed regret over the inconvenience the temporary outage may cause and appealed to residents and businesses in the affected states for patience during the period.
