Katsina Wedding Guest Dies After Taking Drinks

A guest at a wedding that held in Barhim village, Batagarawa LGA, Katsina State, has died after drinking a mixture served at the wedding.

Iliyasu Musa, 25, died at the General Hospital in Katsina, while another guest who also drank the suspected poisonous mixture, Rabiu Sani, is said to be lying unconsciously at the medical facility.

Doctors are said to be presently battling to save the life of 16-year-old Sani.

Confirming the development to newsmen, the spokesman for the state police command, SP Gambo Isah, said the police have arrested one 18-year-old Mudasiru Tanimu who was said to have prepared the mixture.

Taminu’s accomplice, Nafi’u Umar, is said to be on the run.

“On Sunday, November 17, 2019, around 9am, the command arrested one Mudasiru Tanimu, 18, of Barhim village in the Batagarawa LGA of Katsina State, who conspired with one Nafi’u Umar, 18, who is still at large, to prepare a mixture of drugs, which was served to people at a wedding,” Isah said.

“Consequently, one Iliyasu Musa, 25, and Rabi’u Sani, 16, became unconscious after drinking the concoction.

“The victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Katsina, where Musa was confirmed dead, while Sani is still unconscious. The suspect confessed to the crime. An investigation is ongoing.”
