Kogi Prison Break, Politically Motivated To Discredit Bello– Fani-Kayode

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani Kayode, has claimed that the attack on the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kabba, Kogi State, by gunmen on Monday was politically motivated.

An estimated 240 inmates reportedly escaped during an attack on the correctional center.

But Fani-Koayode who has become a political ally of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State believes the attack was to frustrate his presidential ambition.

He tweeted, “The prison break and murder of security men in Kogi was contrived. It is a similar plot to the EFCC one.

“Those behind it need to know that when God is with someone nothing can stop him. Trying to undermine & discredit Yahaya cannot work. Those behind it will hear from us soon.”

Early September, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission sought an order to aid its investigation into allegations that the state had moved a N20bn loan it secured from Sterling Bank to augment the salary payment to a fixed deposit account.

EFCC had said, “Upon the opening of the said account with No. 0072969301, Sterling bank Plc disbursed salary intervention loan to the tune of N20,000,000,000.00 to the account.

“Rather than use the intervention funds for the purpose for which it was granted, the State Government proceeded to open a fixed deposit account No. 0073572696.”

But the state government called a press briefing to debunk what it called- “blatant lies” told against it before the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court by the EFCC.

Bello’s government also described the EFCC case as marred by “political vested interests.”
