A resident of Port Harcourt, Mrs. Amarachi Ibeabuchi, has warned shoppers to beware of fraudulent stores who deliberately overcharge customers.

Ibeabuchi took to her Facebook page to share her encounter with a cashier at Market Square, a supermarket in Port Harcourt, after she was over billed by the cashier.

Market Square is a popular supermarket with more than 10 outlets in different parts of the garden city.

According to her, N27,000 was added to her bill after purchasing items from the store.

When she discovered the scam, she met the store’s chief accountant who was also reluctant to refund her the money.

The accountant instead, insisted she picked other items to cover for the overcharge.

In her words: “A few days ago I went shopping at Market square supermarket Port Harcourt, Ada George branch for some groceries. I picked few things for house use and also for my office, and to my greatest surprise the bill accrued was so huge.

“I questioned the cashier why the huge bill, she told me it’s the total, but I told her I was going to come back for proper checks as I was in a hurry to attend to a call.

“Back to the next day, I discovered that I was overcharged by #27,787 naira, I mean I would have lost 27k for this Naija wey bad like this. I was very angry and raised alarm for them to refund me, but the cashier said I should take something worth of that amount to balance the money meant to be refunded. Omo! I come vex ooo , when they saw I can’t be handled any longer they refunded me. Coming out from there someone told me is the norm there if you are not suspecting they will overcharge you and you will pay in excess of what you bought.

“Please this is a notice to all my friends and family please beware while you are purchasing things, check the price of the product you are buying if it corresponds with the price the machine is giving you, you can imagine I bought a pack of battery for 17,000 instead of 1700, be warned!”
