MDAs’ Debts To Discos Hit N116bn

The Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) has said that as at December 31,2019 the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the country were owing the power distribution companies a total of N116.487 billion.

The ANED disclosed this while making a presentation to the National Economic Council, NEC, subcommittee.

According to the group, Abuja Distribution Company(AEDC), which covers Niger, FCT, Nassarawa, and Kogi was owed a total of N16.132 billion in the period under review while Benin Distribution Company(BEDC) which covers Delta, Edo, Ondo and Ekiti States was owed a total of N6.168 billion

Similarly Eko Distribution Company which caters for Lagos, Ogun, and Agbara, was recorded to be owed a total of N20.874 billion, while the Enugu Distribution Company, that covers Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra and Imo States was also being owed a total N7.034 billion.

Although ANED did not disclose the identities of the MDAs owing it members, it however noted that the federal government in terms of tariff shortfall was indebted to the Discos to the tune of N1.728 trillion.
