With Nigeria having only 46 destinations visa-free access, the statistics showed an overall decline in the value of African passports over the past 10 years.

The firm which ranks passports based on their total visa-free score and data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) however blames this decline on political instability and conflict.

According to the index the best-ranked passport in the world is Japan while in Africa Seychelles ranked the best sitting on the 29th position followed by Mauritius at the 52nd position and South Africa at the 56th position.
