Nigerians Want Vice President Osinbajo To Quit Buhari’s Govt Over Plot To Weaken Him

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has been urged to resign from office following the sudden dissolution of the Economic Management Team (EMT) he chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari had dissolved the EMT and constituted the Economic Advisory Council which he saddled with the responsibility of advising him “on economic policy matters, including fiscal analysis, economic growth and a range of internal and global economic issues working with the relevant cabinet members and heads of monetary and fiscal agencies.”

Nigerians on twitter are now calling on the vice president to resign voluntarily following reports that President Buhari had allegedly whittled down his power by dissolving the EMT and directing him to seek approvals before taking decisions on agencies under his supervision.

Some of such agencies are the National Emergency Management Agency, the National Boundary Commission, the Border Communities Development Agency and the Niger Delta Power Holding Company.

Nigerians’ call for Osinbajo to quit Buhari’s government also came after the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, alleged that the presidency had rendered the vice president’s office useless, impotent and irrelevant.

Some Nigerians who reacted on Twitter claim that the alleged move against Osinbajo was aimed at reducing his influence and denying the South West the presidency in 2023.

“Let Osinbajo resign and move his family out of Aso rock before it is too late. Tinubu is reaping from what he sowed,” said @olufemirock

“Southern Nigeria, open your eyes! Wake up! This is not about Osinbajo but power shift in 2023. Wake up!!!” said twitter user @henryshield.

Another twitter user, @William_Ukpe, said: “Your Vice president Osinbajo has been relegated to a Ball boy and some of you are still supporting the party because you think your Jagaban will be the Next president. El-Rufai and Ganduje suddenly talking about no more Zoning for Presidency never give una sense?”

“Osinbajo should honorably resign now cos Abba kyari has taken over the first or second in command position dictating the proceeding in the Aso rock, Oyo-ita is gone, Fowler will follow then Osinbajo may be humiliated, and Tinubu reign is coming to an end,” said @olufemirock.

Meanwhile, Punch reports that the presidency is allegedly planning to strip Osinbajo of the control of some government programmes he initiated.
