Nigeria’s Amina ‘Honoured’ To Be Reappointed UN Deputy Secretary-General

Former Nigerian Minister of Environment, Amina J. Mohammed, says she is glad to have been reappointed as the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General.

She expressed her joy via a statement on social media.

“An absolute honour to continue to serve alongside the @UN Secretary-General @antonioguterres in his second term, working for humanity and our planet!,” she stated.

Mohammed was reappointed by the recently reelected UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres.

She has been serving in that capacity since 2017.

THE WHISTLER earlier reported that Guterres was on Saturday reelected for a second term in office by the UN General Assembly for another five-year tenure.

On her part, the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union (AU), Monique Nsanzabaganwa, said Mohammed was a shining example for the African continent.

“Congratulations, dear sister @AminaJMohammed on your reappointment by @UN Secretary General @antonioguterres.

“We @_AfricanUnion are happy to continue working with you, The Winning Team, for the attainment of a better world and #TheAfricaWeWant in particular,” she stated on Saturday.

The UN is a global organization that has jurisdiction on matters bordering on international peace, security and diplomacy, among nations.

It was founded after the Second World War in 1945.
