‘No Police Station Burnt’ — Lagos Command Reacts To Rampage At Ile Epo Market

The Lagos State Police Command has debunked news making the rounds that that a police outpost in the popular Ile-Epo market was set ablaze by hoodlums on Monday.

The state’s police spokesperson, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a series of tweets on Monday.

There were reports of an attempted attack on the police station at the market situated in Alimosho Local Government Area of the state.

The incident started when a police operative reportedly had an altercation with one of the ‘market boys’.

The boy was said to have attempted to hijack the cop’s rifle, thereby firing a bullet in the process.

The development erupted in chaos as the hoodlums allegedly tried to set ablaze the police facility within the precinct of the market.

The incident had also caused panic among residents and traders who scampered to safety as the boy in question was rushed to the hospital, Punch reports. 

It is uncertain if the boy had sustained injuries in the process.

Reacting to the report, Adejobi said, “The command wishes to debunk the rumor that Ile Epo Police Station was set ablaze by the hoodlums. This news is false and should be disregarded. The command intends to give details of the incident as soon as possible.”

Adejobi said normalcy had been restored in the area and the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had ordered investigation into the incident.
