Nobel Peace Prize Winner Replies Trump: ‘I Didn’t Work For The Prize, I Worked For Peace’

The 2019 Noble Peace Prize winner, Abiy Ahmed has said that US president Donald Trump should forward his complaint to the organisers of the Prize.
Trump had last week remarked during a campaign that he had “saved a country” from a big war and expressed surprise that his effort was not crowned with a peace prize.

According to Trump, “I made a deal, I saved a country, and I just heard that the head of that country is now getting the Nobel Peace Prize for saving the country. I said: ‘What, did I have something to do with it?’ Yeah, but you know, that’s the way it is.”

Responding at a press briefing in South Africa Abiye said he was “not working for the prize” rather for “peace in the region”.

According to him,”I don’t have any clue about the criteria, how the Nobel committee selects an individual for the prize,” he said.

“If President Trump complained it must go to Oslo not to Ethiopia,” he added.

US Democrats have also replied Trump, stating that the President was ‘confused.’
In an official twitter account controlled by the Democrats, @HouseForeignAffairsCommittee, the party said Trump was confused and did not understand the criteria that won Abiy the award.

They added that he had confused his meeting last November with representatives from Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan over use of Nile waters, as worth a Noble Peace Prize.

Recall a ceasefire was signed in 2000, but the neighbours technically remained at war until July 2018, when Abiy and Eritrea’s President Isaias Afwerki signed a peace deal.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee said Abiy was honoured for his “decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighbouring Eritrea”.

Similarly, Trump’s November meeting with the three sides has been fruitless as Abiy seeks the mediation of South Africa’s president Cyril Ramaphosa.

However, the parties will meet on US this week to continue talks.
