NSCDC Promotes 85 Officers, Demands High Accountability

The Gombe State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Wednesday decorated 85 officers promoted in the 2025 promotion exercise, marking a significant leadership transition within the command.

The decoration ceremony, held at the State Command Conference Hall in Gombe, followed a management meeting and brought together officers elevated across senior and junior cadres.

State Commandant, CC Jibrin Idris, presided over the event and formally charged the beneficiaries to align their new ranks with high standards of conduct and responsibility.

Addressing the officers, Idris stressed that promotion within the Corps reflects confidence in an officer’s capacity to shoulder greater responsibility rather than a mere acknowledgement of past service.

He warned that professional discipline, integrity and leadership would now attract increased scrutiny from both the institution and the public.

“Promotion is not a reward alone; it is a call to higher responsibility. You must recommit yourselves to discipline, integrity, selfless service and exemplary leadership in the discharge of your duties,” he said.

The Commandant disclosed that the promotion list comprised 53 senior officers and 32 junior officers, describing the moment as a critical stage in their professional growth.

He noted that the new ranks placed the officers in positions where decision-making, accountability and public trust would be more demanding.

Idris further directed the promoted officers to adapt to evolving security realities by embracing modern law enforcement strategies, improving engagement with host communities and strengthening inter-agency cooperation.

He emphasised that effective collaboration with sister security agencies remains essential to addressing security challenges and safeguarding lives and property.

“The public expects more from you at this level. You must work closely with other security agencies and the communities you serve to ensure the safety and security of lives and property,” Idris added.

Representing the promoted officers, Assistant Commandant of Corps, Kizito Igawe, acknowledged the significance of the elevation and expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Corps for the confidence reposed in them.

“We thank the Almighty God and the Commandant General of the NSCDC for finding us worthy of this promotion. We pledge to uphold the values, standards and ideals of the Corps with renewed commitment and dedication,” he said.

The ceremony took place against the backdrop of broader developments within the Corps.

In the first week of January, the NSCDC sought presidential approval to recruit about 30,000 additional personnel nationwide.

The request followed increased demand for security coverage, particularly VIP escort services, after the withdrawal of police officers from such assignments.
