One Dies, Two Injure In Double Road Accidents In Anambra

One male adult was killed in a lone fatal road accident which occurred near Jehovah Witness, Uli, in lhiala area of Anambra State on Sunday. The crash involved a Nissan commercial bus with registration number YAB 114 XA.

The driver was reported to have lost control of the vehicle following over-speeding which resulted in a tyre burst. An eyewitness said fifteen persons, six male adults, six female adults, two female children and one child were involved. Four male adults and four female adults, who sustained varying degrees of injuries, were rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala, while the deceased was deposited at Obijason Mortuary.

In another crash, Monday evening, two male adults escaped death by a whisker in an accident in front of Finotel, Agu-Awka in Awka, along Awka-Enugu expressway, which involved a red tanker laden with diesel with registration number AKL 536 YU.

The Anambra State sector education officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, RC Kamal Musa, quoted a source saying the accident was a result of loss of control due to excessive speeding, leading to the tanker crashing into the drain.

According to him, “Two male adults were involved. The driver fled with the truck head before the arrival of the FRSC operatives and men of the Anambra State Fire Service who came to neutralize the effects of the diesel spillage. Neither injury nor death was recorded.”

Meanwhile, the sector commander, FRSC, Anambra State, CC Andrew A. Kumapayi, has warned motorists to desist from excessive speeding as road traffic crashes are avoidable.
