PDP Alleges ‘Rape Of Democracy’ As APC Clears All 17 Chairmanship, 325 Councillorship Polls In Plateau

The local government elections conducted on Saturday by the Plateau Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) have been described as mere appointments rather than elections.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accused PLASIEC of literally appointing members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) into different positions after the electoral body declared that the APC cleared all 342 chairmanship and councillorship positions at the polls.

PLASIEC’s chairman, Fabian Ntung, had declared the outcome of the polls on Sunday.

But reacting through its spokesperson, John Akans, the Plateau PDP described the election as a “rape of democracy”.

The party would on Monday decide whether or not to challenge the outcome of the election, said Akans.

In its reaction, however, the Plateau APC expressed satisfaction with the election results.

“We are through with the elections and we are moving to the next level.

“The most important thing is that there hasn’t been any problem anywhere.

“There was no threat to peace in any part of the state and we are happy that all went well,’’ said Sati Bashir, APC’s secretary in the state.
