PDP Is A Failed Party – APC

The All Progressive Congress (APC) has described its main rival, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as a failed party that was bent on tearing down the current administration through fake news and anti-democratic behaviors.

APC said this on Tuesday via a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu.

The ruling party said the PDP was disappointed with the fact that it lost the presidential election and the Ekiti, Osun, Kano, Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections, as well as some National Assembly seats to the its party.

The party claimed that the PDP was not playing the required opposition role that can fast track national development and as such, other political parties should fill the gap.

“No doubt, our country deserves a strong and vibrant opposition to play its conventional role in the polity and to deepen democracy. The PDP has shown crass and shocking incapacity to perform that role. As a party that believes in democracy and progressive politics, we are worried by this obvious vacuum,” the statement read in part.

The party also alleged that the PDP only cries foul when they lose elections but celebrates when they come out victorious.

The statement said that PDP’s call for electoral reforms should not be trusted by the Nigerian populace, but also added that “there remains much to be done in ensuring the sanctity of our electioneering process, particularly partisan approach to elections.”

The ruling party also blamed the PDP for diverting public funds when it was in power.

“On the governance side, the PDP is reminded how compared to its past administrations which enjoyed record earnings, yet frittered our commonwealth, with limited resources, the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration continues to achieve several visible milestones.”

The statement may not be unconnected to the recent statements made by the PDP’s national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, during a meeting with officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.

He accused the ruling APC of manipulating the electoral processes and also called for electoral reforms that would guarantee credible elections in the nation.

“The ruling APC, unlike the PDP, is not disposed to any electoral law that will prevent them from manipulating the system. We in PDP expect INEC to be at the forefront of the process to have legal framework for the conduct of free, fair and credible elections.

“The survival and sustenance of our democracy rest squarely on the integrity of the electoral commission which will derive from the character and the impartiality of its operatives. Free, fair and credible election is exactly what PDP and indeed global democracy demand and expect from INEC,” he said.
