Police Arrest 5 Kidnappers In Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers in Ahon community on the Benin/Lagos Road.

Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Philip Ogbadu, who disclosed this on Thursday, said that the arrest followed a raid on bushes in the community after the command received a distress call from the area about the abduction and killing of a U.S. based Nigerian by some herders.

He called for collaboration among other security agencies in order to put an end to incessant kidnappings and other criminal activities in the state.

Ogbadu called on all security agencies in the state to rededicate themselves to securing the lives and property of Edo people.

“I have tried to make impact and a difference in the last 21 days after assuming office as the CP in the state.

“After the #EndSARS, the morale of people became low but, we need to inject life into it,” he said.

Recall that the commissioner, who assumed office in the state recently, had urged security chiefs to caution their personnel to avoid violence while discharging their duties.

“We are brothers, so let us not clash. We will encourage our personnel as much as possible,” Ogbadu assured.

Last week Saturday, some suspected kidnappers had blocked a highway in Benin City and abducted Chief Dennis Abuda, an insurance broker based in Atlanta, United States, alongside three others. He was thereafter killed and his body dumped in the bushes by suspected herdsmen.

The three others were released on Tuesday night after alleged payment of ransom, which was later recovered as confirmed by family sources.
