Police Arrest Herdsmen For Gang Rape Of Underage Girl In Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two herdsmen for alleged gang rape of a 16-year-old girl at a farm settlement in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The arrested suspects were identified as Abu Adamu and Muhammadu Aliyu.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who said this in a statement stated that the suspects were arrested following a distress call received by the police at the Ewekoro Divisional Headquarters.

The PPRO stated that the herdsmen invaded a farm settlement at Afowowa Gbelu village located in Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state and robbed the parents of the girl.

The suspects were said to have dragged the girl into a cassava plantation where they forcefully had carnal knowledge of her one after the other.

The police said the suspects ransacked the house of one Aminat Okeshola and dispossessed the family of N140, 000 after which they took the 16-year-old girl to where they raped her.

The statement said, “On the strength of the distress call, policemen from Ewekoro division swiftly moved to the scene, combed the entire area and succeeded in arresting two of the suspects, who were hiding in the nearby bush on sighting the policemen while the third one escaped.

“The two arrested suspects were immediately identified by the victims.”

Oyeyemi said preliminary investigation revealed that the herdsmen had always been passing through the farm settlement with their cattle during the day time and they came back at night to perpetrate their nefarious activities having surveyed the settlement .

The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had ordered a manhunt for the fleeing member of the gang and ordered the case to be transfered to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
