Reactions As Sky Sports Claims Everton Rejected Barcelona’s £85m Offer For Richarlison

Everton FC have rejected Barcelona’s €100m (£85m) offer for Brazilian striker Richarlison de Andrade as they look to strengthen their squad, Sky Sport claims, but media and football experts have said ‘there was no such bid’.

The Everton star has long been targeted by Barca’s sporting director Eric Abidal, who had made earlier inquiry about the 22-year-old’s availability last summer.

It was reported that Abidal believes the player who renewed his contract in a five-year deal at Everton in December 2019, has similar style of play with Luis Suarez’s and could complement the Uruguayan, as the player has scored 24 goals in 60 appearances, after his  £40m move from Watford in 2018.

According to Rob Dorset of Sky Sports: “The bid came in earlier this week. There was no discussion here – it was immediately rejected by Everton. They want to add to their squad under Carlo Ancelotti.

“Everton bought him for £40m. This offer is more than double your money in 18 months, but the club see Richarlison as an absolutely key part of Everton’s future.

“He’s only 22 years old and they were prepared to turn that sort of money down. £85m from Barcelona. It is quite extraordinary.”

However, many media refutes the claim, as Spanish media outlets state that Barcelona never made such offer for the Brazilian, though they are in need of a striker.

Daily Mail’s Dominic King supported  their claim in his tweet @Dominic where he said: “Everton absolutely emphatic that the suggestion an £85m bid from Barcelona for Richarlison is nonsense. The matter, as far as they are concerned, is now closed.”

Spanish journalist Guillem Ballague on his twitter account @Guillam Ballague said the claim is untrue, according to him, “not true, anyway.”

Both clubs are yet to react to the allegation, however, the Spanish champions have until Friday to bring in a forward this month, as the Spanish La Liga’s and English Premier League transfer window closes 11pm GMT on January 31.

Similarly, Barcelona are currently three points behind table leaders Real Madrid and would like to complement the service of injured Suarez with Richarlison’s genuse style of play, as the Uruguayan was ruled out for four months following knee surgery earlier in January.
