Saraki Calls Emergency Meeting Of NASS Leadership

Senate President Bukola Saraki has called for an emergency meeting of the leadership of both chambers of the National Assembly.

The meeting, which is expected to touch on pressing issues facing the legislative arm of government, is scheduled for 12pm Tuesday.

Media aide to the Senate President, Yusuph Olaniyonu, who confirmed the development, declined to further details of the meeting.

According to reports, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, is also expected to meet with the lawmakers after their meeting tomorrow afternoon.

Issues expected to be discussed include, the gale of defections by lawmakers, the pending 2019 elections supplementary budget before the National Assembly.

The leadership of the National Assembly has come under pressure to reconvene parliament and consider some requests of the Executive.

Some APC senators, including Ali Ndume and Ahmed Lawal, have insisted that the long adjournment was not in the best interest of the country.
