Senate Refers Appointment Of Buratai, Others, To Joint Security Committee

The Senate on Wednesday February 10 considered the controversial nomination of Ex-Service Chiefs as non-career Ambassador designates forwarded to it by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Leader of the Senate, Abdullahi Yahaya (Kebbi North) read the list of nominees for the appointment of the non-career diplomats whose nomination by the President follows Section 171(1), (2) © and subsection (4) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

The nominees were however referred to the Senate Joint Committee on Army, Defence, Navy and Air force, to report to the general assembly in four weeks.

Similarly, the Upper Chamber entertained a point of Order raised under Order 43 of the Senate Rule Book by Senator Philip Aduda.

Aduda had queried the decision by President Muhammadu Buhari to consistently ignore the federal capital in his appointment of the non-career Ambassadors, calling on President Buhari to review his decision.

He called on the Presidency to henceforth see the FCT as priority in Ambassadorial nominations; this is as the Senate President assured that a nominee from the FCT might be included in a fifth list from the presidency.
