Senator Decries Sale Of Government Employment

The senator representing Kaduna south senatorial district of Kaduna State, Danjuma Laah, has urged the 9th Senate to put an end to “incessant monetization” of employment in ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) in the country.

“We should prevent the incessant monetizing of employment in various MDAs,” Laah said on Thursday during the plenary session of the Senate.

The Senator said this in his contribution to the report of Senate ad-hoc committee on the legislative agenda of the ninth red chamber.

The Senate was considering the report and receiving contributions from the lawmakers on areas it should give priority to in the next four years.

Meanwhile, Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, had said the senate was now ready to “set the ball rolling on confronting our challenges through diligent lawmaking, effective representation and thorough overnight” after the upper legislative resumed its annual recess on Tuesday.

Lawan had outlined some of the key issues that the senate hopes to address before the end of 2019.

“Youth unemployment is yet another challenge we cannot allow to continue. One of the ways through which we can harness these priceless assets is to make the agriculture sector attractive to them. This will contribute to resolving the problem of youth unemployment.

“As representatives of the people, we are obliged to work towards satisfying their yearnings and aspirations. In doing so, we shall continue to be steadfast, conscientious and courageous. This is the obligation we have as representatives,” the senate president had said.
