A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ntufam Mba Ekpezu Ukweni, has slammed Cross Rivers State Governor, Ben Ayade, for allegedly promising to give jobs to some polling unit agents in the state..

Ukweni also berated Ayade for allegedly ordering the sack of 34 civil servants employed by his deputy, Ivara Esu.

He entreated the governor to repeal his decision on retrenchment of workers, noting that the decision was unpopular.

Ukweni alleged that Governor Ayade, in a meeting with some politicians, promised to give polling unit agents appointment in the state when civil servants are owed salaries for months.

“People who have been given employment, both as teachers, magistrates and health workers have not been paid since they were employed, yet he has promised polling unit agents employment.”

The SAN lamented that the decision was irrational, “You can imagine the number of polling units we have in the state, he is crying of no money, what sort of logic is that? It doesn’t make sense to me and it’s a major problem we have in the state,”

He added that “When the Governor appointed many commissioners in the state, most of them did not have offices but were earning salaries and doing nothing, no office for them to sit down and function but at the end of the month, they would receive alerts. That is corruption and the Governor should not encourage it”

Ukweni further asked Ayade to recall magistrates, civil servants, teachers and health workers as well as others allegedly sacked by him and pay them their wages.
