South East Governors May Dialogue With IPOB – Report

The governors of the five southeastern states of Abia, Imo, Anambra, Enugu and Enugu may be preparing to hold talks with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) separatist group over the security situation in the region.

This was according to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) which quoted Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, as telling journalists after a meeting of the governors in Enugu that the South East leaders had set up a committee to hold talks with “agitators” in the region to address their grievances.

Although the governor did not specify the group the committee will hold talks with, but IPOB and its paramilitary wing, Eastern Security Network (ESN), are the main groups agitating for secession in the region.

Should the dialogue take place, the current security challenges facing the South East may soon become a thing of the past.
