Facebook Opens Nigerian Hub 2018

American social networking service, Facebook Inc. announced on Wednesday that it will open a community hub space in Nigeria next year.

The online social media service in a statement said the development will encourage software developers and technology entrepreneurs

The Menlo Park, California company said it would train 50,000 Nigerians in digital skills and also host an incubator programme to help develop technology start-ups.

“We understand the important role Facebook plays here in Nigeria with developers and start-ups and are interested in helping these communities,” Emeka Afigbo, Facebook’s regional head of platform partnership said in a statement on Wednesday.

Facebook said the training would be conducted in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Calabar and Kaduna.

Last year, Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, visited technology companies in Lagos and his charitable foundation provided $24m to Andela, which trains developers.

According to Facebook, over 22 million Nigerians use its social networks monthly.
