The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has slammed ex-President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, for allegedly stating that the party was divided, factionalised and gasping for breath.

There were reports that the former president was sighted at an event organised by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Saturday, 6th August, an allegation he deemed untrue, stating that he was only at the venue for his personal business.

Obasanjo was quoted saying, “If I quit a party when it was alive and seemingly united, how could I go back to a now divided, factionalised party gasping for breath?”

But in a swift reaction, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Walid Jibrin who slammed Obasanjo during the party’s inauguration of 18-member peace committee, said that despite Obasanjo’s reckless statement and prediction of doom, the party was ready to receive him if he came back.

Jibrin said, “leaders who are talking in newspapers that this party is not alive, the party is alive. It is only in the imagination of those saying that this party is dead and that it will not come back.

“Such people should change their minds. If he comes back to this party, we are ready to receive him.”
