‘We’ll Resist Every Attempt To Force Buhari Out Of Power’

Reactions have continued to trail the calls for President Muhammadu Buhari’s retirement from office after the conclusion of his first tenure in 2019.

One of such reactions is from Mohammed Lawal, the Deputy Director, Coordination/Implementation of Buhari’s Presidential Campaign Council in 2015, who rebuked former President Olusegun Obasanjo for asking the president not to seek re-election in 2019.

Lawal, in a chat over the weekend with newsmen, said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would resist any attempt by the Obasanjo-proposed Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) to force President Buhari out of power.

He said the “Increasing criticism and gang up will not force President Buhari out of the contest in the event he decides to go for a second term.”

“We are in politics; we would tackle any opposition, any group or gang up, be it a coalition or third force or whatever.

“What ex-President Obasanjo is doing is not the way to express patriotism; Obasanjo is just fuelling tension and causing a lot of apprehensions.

“He is still feeling Buhari era is like late Yar’adua era or Goodluck Jonathan era that he planted. We would not fold our hands this time around. We would fight back strongly. If the Federal Government is so careful in speaking out, we the supporters of President Buhari would not sit down and look,” said Lawal.

Meanwhile, following Obasanjo’s suit to ask for Buhari’s ousting is the former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida, who in a statement on Sunday, enjoined Nigerians to vote the president out in the 2019 presidential election.

“In 2019 and beyond, we should come to a national consensus that we need new breed leadership with requisite capacity to manage our diversities and jump-start a process of launching the country on the super highway of technology-driven leadership in line with the dynamics of modern governance. It is short of saying enough of this analogue system. Let’s give way for digital leadership,” IBB had said.
