Super Eagles Deserve To Win Nations Cup — Peseiro

Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro has showered encomiums on the players for booking a place in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The team earned a 4-2 penalty shootout victory over South Africa on Wednesday night after the regulation time and extra time ended 1-1, to qualify for the final of the competition.

William Troost-Ekong opened the scoring for the Super Eagles from the penalty spot after Osimhen was fouled in the box.

Teboho Mokoena also scored from the spot for South Africa following Alhassan Yusuf’s foul on Percy Tau in the 90th minute.

The Super Eagles held on to take the tie to penalty shootout, Stanley Nwabali was the hero of the night with two penalty saves before Iheanacho scored the winning kick.

Peseiro has reserved special praises for his players for their impressive performance in the competition.

“The players deserve to be in the finals, it’s a very good victory against a good team.

“I said it earlier that South Africa have the best of organization because they play together and they created more problems for us. It was very difficult to beat them.”

Meanwhile, Stanley Nwabali was named the man of the match following his stunning performance in the encounter.

The Chippa United goalkeeper has dedicated the award to his teammates.

Nwabali said, “It has been a good team performance throughout this tournament. I really appreciate the management and coaches.

“These guys have really guided me a lot throughout this tournament, and I feel so happy.”

The Super Eagles have only conceded two goals in six matches in the competition, seeing off the likes of Cameroon, Angola and South Africa to book a final slot against Ivory Coast on Sunday at the Alassanne Quattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan on Sunday.
