A mediation team led by President Muhammadu Buhari has touched down in The Gambia on Friday for further peace talks with President Yahya Jammeh.
Buhari, in the company of four other Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) leaders, are expected to talk President Jammeh into handing over power peacefully to the winner of the country’s December 1 presidential election, Adama Barrow.
President-elect Barrow, who is expected to take office on January 19, 2017, currently knows not his fate as the incumbent President remains adamant about relinquishing power to him.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria House of Representatives, in a motion moved on Thursday, urged President Buhari to offer asylum to Jammeh in Nigeria if the latter agrees to peacefully bow out of office.
