Tinubu: APC Politicians ‘Afflicted With 2023 Virus’ After Oshiomhole’s Downfall

The acclaimed national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has blamed politicians with 2023 ambition for the troubles facing the party’s embattled national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.

Tinubu, who declared support for Oshiomhole, described APC politicians after his downfall as “those afflicted with the 2023 virus”.

Speaking in a statement he personally signed on Sunday, TInubu said the APC crisis allegedly occasioned by activities of selfish politicians in the party was a disservice to the administration of President Buhari.

The APC leader also condemned the call for a National Executive Council meeting by the assistant national secretary of the party, Victor Gaidom, on March 17.

He said those behind the APC crisis believe that “the events of 2023 will be decided before we even exit the year 2020.”

Tinubu described Oshiomhole as a “tireless campaigner and mobilizer” for the APC that deserves to be supported despite his imperfections.

“It is against this backdrop that we should view the present ploys and plots to undermine the APC National Chairman. The Chairman is human; thus, he has his merits as well as his flaws.

“Yet his humanity cannot be grounds for his dismissal. If so, the position will forever go vacant.

“The Chairman has been a tireless campaigner and mobilizer for the party. He has steered the party through difficult elections.

“His contributions should not be undervalued now that the bulk of elections are behind us.

“…those afflicted with the 2023 virus do a grave disservice to President Buhari and his administration,” he said.

Recall that Oshiomhole had been suspended by a high court in Abuja following an application filed by some party chieftains.

The APC chieftains filed the application after Oshiomhole was suspended by the APC his home state in Edo.

Following Oshiomhole’s suspension, the APC had announced three new members of its National Working Committee.
