Trigger-Happy Police Inspector Kills Five In Enugu

A yet-to-be-named police inspector, during the weekend, killed five persons at Golf Estate in Enugu.

THE WHISTLER gathered that the police inspector, said to be attached to Special Protection Unit Base 9, Umuahia, Abia State, was on duty at RC Lotto Company located in the estate.

A resident of the area, on condition of anonymity, said, “It is unbelievable. I was told that those that were killed were returning from church. The other victim is a young man who washes cars around the place. The man who shot them might be under an influence of something.”

It was gathered that the policeman, after killing them, reported himself to the office of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad, close to the place, claiming he shot some ‘unknown people’.

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police Command has announced the arrest of the police inspector.

ASP Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement, said the state police commissioner, Mr Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu, had ordered the deputy commissioner of police in-charge of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident that occurred on June 20, 2021 around 9.30am in the Golf Estate area of Enugu.

According to him, “Four of the persons said to have sustained gunshot injuries are receiving treatment and five others whose injuries were critical have been confirmed dead.”

The commissioner, in the statement, called on the residents, friends of the deceased persons to remain calm and cooperate with the command in the ongoing investigation.

The state governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, also visited the victims who are receiving treatment at Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Parklane, to sympathise with them.
