Troops Attack 4 Boko Haram Strongholds After Change Of Service Chiefs

Nigerian troops in conjunction with Multinational Joint Taskforce (MNJTF) seemed to have new motivation has they invaded four Boko Haram strongholds in the North-East, few hours after the service chiefs were replaced.

The new service chiefs are: Major General Leo Irabor as Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru as Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo as Chief of Naval Staff and Air vice Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao as the Chief of Air Staff.

According to PRNigeria, the Operation was led by the Commander, 21 Special Armour Brigade, Brig. Gen Waidi Shaibu.

The troops invaded and killed several Boko Haram fighters in Maiyanki, Darulsallam, Bula kurege and Izza.

A military source who was part of the operation also told THE WHISTLER that the camps attacked served as training grounds for insurgents and where they launch ambush of troops.

According to the source, a number of the terrorists’ commanders and high value fighters were eliminated, while many more were injured in the ground and aerial strikes on the insurgents’ enclaves.

This website was also told that dozens of equipment have been captured from the terrorists while food stuffs, Improvised Explosive Devices materials and clothing were destroyed.

“We have cleared Maiyanki, Darulsallam, Bula kurege and have now taken over Izza, all former Boko Haram strong points. Our troops have been repeatedly attacked in harbour areas throughout the night, but all were repelled while inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy.
“The situation is tough but we are winning. Sadly, a soldier paid the supreme sacrifice and 3 were injured. We brought them out. Our resolve and commitment is unshaken,” he said.
