U.S. Places More Sanctions On Iran

The United States of America has put more sanctions on the Islamic republic of Iran, following the reprisal attacks on U.S. military bases in Iraq.

The U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo disclosed this via a tweet on Friday.

The US president, Donald Trump had announced “additional punishing economic sanctions” on the Iranian administration, adding that it would “remain until Iran changes its behavior.”

Pompeo said some Iranian nationals as well as different organizations of Iranian origin would be sanctioned as well.

The Islamic republic has been under various strict sanctions, over the years, including under the Trump administration.

In November 2018, the United States placed Iran on sanctions to force the country to alter its policies in the region, including its alleged support for militias in the region as well as for its development of ballistic missiles.

In September 2019, a U.S. official stated that whoever deals with Iran or purchases its oil would be placed on sanctions.

Still in September 2019, in retaliation to a suspected Iranian attack on a Saudi Arabian oil facilities ,  Trump asked the Treasury Department to “substantially increase” sanctions on Iran,  targeting Iranian national bank.
