UNILAG Crisis: FG Receives, Promises Full Implementation Of Panel’s Report

The Federal Ministry of Education on Thursday, received the final report from the Special Visitation Panel constituted by President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the management crisis at the University of Lagos.

THE WHISTLER had earlier reported that the Federal Government had on August 21, suspended the Chairman of the school’s Governing Council, Wale Babalakin, and the Vice-Chancellor, Oluwatoyin Ogundipe.

It also set up a panel to investigate the crisis.

“FG directs Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of Governing Council of the University of Lagos, Dr. B. O. Babalakin and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin T. O. Ogundipe to recuse themselves from official duties, pending the outcome of the Special Visitation Panel set up by the President,” Ministry of Education’s Spokesperson, Ben Bem Goong, had stated.

The UNILAG crisis became pronounced when Ogundipe was removed by the council over allegations of financial misappropriation.

Ogundipe had also denied the allegations.

On Thursday, the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, received the panel’s report in Abuja while assuring that it would be thoroughly considered.

He stressed that the recommendations of the panel would be thoroughly scrutinised with the aim of fully implementing them, The Punch reports.
