Edo Election: PSC Says Its Monitoring Team Will Watch Conduct Of Policemen

The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday urged police officers deployed to Edo State ahead of September 19 governorship elections to operate within the law or face sanctions.

The Head, Press and Public Relations of the Commission, Ikechukwu Ani, made this known in a statement.

The commission disclosed that a high-powered team has been deployed to the state to monitor the conduct of policemen on electoral duties during this Saturday’s election.

The team is led by Barrister Rommy Mom, a Commissioner representing Human Rights organizations and Austin Braimoh, representing the Media.

The PSC said it has also released dedicated telephone numbers for complaints and commendation on the conduct of Police during the exercise.

The commission noted that any infractions on the laws guiding election policing by any officer will be investigated and appropriate sanctions are given.

“The Commission has however received assurances from the leadership of the Police charged with maintaining peace and order during the election in the state that every security arrangement has been put in place to ensure hitch-free and peaceful polls,” the PSC said.

This website had earlier reported that that the Nigerian Police Force had deployed about 31,000 operatives of the Force ahead of the Edo State gubernatorial election.
