Vincent Kompany Retires From Professional Football, Becomes Full Time Coach

Ex Manchester City and Belgium defender, Vincent Kompany has called it quit with professional football and focusing fully on his position as Anderlecht coach.

Kompany, 34, was a player -coach for the Belgian club Anderlecht since joining the club last summer from English side Manchester City but had to leave the coaching part in August to focus fully on his playing career.

“I want to fully commit to my role as coach and need 100% of my time and focus for it.

“That’s why I’m quitting as a football player. Our ambition and our hunger remain the same.

” I want to stay with the club for at least four seasons and prove that Anderlecht can play a modern style of football, with results.” Kompany said

Anderlecht chief executive, Karel Van Eetvelt, also confirmed that Kompany will be staying with the club for the next four seasons.

“It might have come a little sooner than expected, but Vincent committing himself for another four seasons to the club is great news for the club, our supporters and our players.”

Kompany will replace Franky Vercauteren as the coach and will have his first test in that regard in a match against Mouscron on Sunday.
