We Won’t Abandon Ajaero Because Of Treason Charges-NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress has said it would not abandon its President Comrade. Joe Ajaero during his current investigations by the security agencies on allegations of terrorism financing.

Members of the union who spoke to THE WHISTLER also vowed to support their leader who is currently under investigation for various offences and vowed to support him throughout his travails.

THE WHISTLER had reported that Ajaero was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja en route to London to attend a conference of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, of the UK.

Speaking on the arrest of the labour leader, a top member of the Congress told THE WHISTLER that the union members had resolved not to be intimidated by the harassment from security agencies.

The source said, “The security agencies said he was invited and declined the invitation, all these are lies. Joe Ajaero has nothing to do with terrorism financing, he doesn’t even have enough funds as an individual to finance terrorism.

“As an organization, we don’t have enough money for that. So, why would he be funding terrorism? And to achieve what purpose?

“For us here at NLC, the sovereignty, prosperity, integrity and welfare of the people are our passion and it is done as a way of life and not as a job, all these tactics are politically driven to distract him and we will see him through this; we are unphased.”

Another top official of the NLC told THE WHISTLER that the labour leader is not feeling intimidated by the constant harassment by the security agencies.

The official said, “It is an unnecessary harassment but he is feeling strong, mentally he is strong, but of course, the toll of it all as a human being would eventually play out, but he is trying to cope with this unnecessary harassment intending to distract him from his core duties.

“The international community is not happy, same with Nigerians. It is quite embarrassing, questions are being asked, and we have demanded an explanation for this brutal abuse of power.”

Following the uproar that greeted the DSS action, the Presidency said no one was above the law. Also, the government said, Ajaero should have honoured the security agency’s invitation.
