At the moment, global Covid-19 cases are more than 9 million, according to latest Worldometer figures.

The WHO had raised alarm last week, regarding the speed at which cases were being recorded globally.

Adhanom urged all countries and health authorities to be watchful and ensure that the public health advisory on covid-19 were strictly complied with, so as to avoid spike.

“This is a sober reminder that even as we continue R&D into vaccines and therapeutics, we have an urgent responsibility to do everything we can with the tools we have now to suppress transmission & save lives,” he said.

Furthermore, Adhanom, noted that oxygen cylinders were in high demand globally, especially for patients with severe covid-19 cases.

“Medical oxygen is produced using oxygen concentrators, which extract and purify oxygen from the air.

“WHO estimates that at the current rate of about 1M new cases a week, the world needs about 620,000 cubic meters of oxygen a day, which is about 88,000 large cylinders”-@DrTedros
