Why We Stopped Makarfi’s PDP From Converging On ICC – Police

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has explained why it stopped the Ahmed Makarfi faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from using the International Conference Center (ICC), Abuja for its meeting.

Recall that the group had scheduled an emergency meeting following the declaration of Ali Modu Sheriff as the chairman of the PDP by an appeal court.

The police however stopped the party from converging on the venue, forcing the group to find another venue for its already planned meeting.

Following the development, Makarfi’s group alleged that the police force was working under the order of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

But in its explanation, the police in a statement issued by its spokesman Anjuguri Manzah, said it stopped the Makarfi-led faction from using the ICC to avoid breakdown of law and order in FCT, as the Sheriff faction had also planned a meeting to hold at the same venue.

Manzah said, “Credible intelligence at the disposal of the FCT Police Command indicated that the two factions i.e. the Ahmed Makarfi group and the Ali Modu Sheriff group scheduled to hold their meetings at the International Conference Centre today [Monday] and this can lead to serious clash and breach of public peace.”
