WTO Job: Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Wishes Okonjo-Iweala Ultimate Success
Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, on Friday, expressed optimism that international economist, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, would most likely secure the position of the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation.
THE WHISTLER earlier reported that Okonjo-Iweala had secured a spot in the next round of contest for the WTO’ top spot.
Onyeama stressed that her progression in the WTO’ electoral process was a good one.
“Warmest congratulations to Dr. @NOIweala on successfully progressing to the second round of the @wto DG election process.
“Very best wishes for ultimate success. #COVID19 @NigeriaGov @DigiCommsNG @ecowas_cedeao,” he tweeted.
The WTO DG position plays a managerial and advisory function.
It directs the organisation’s operations for a tenure of four years.
As a global body, the WTO helps to moderate international economic relations, among others.
